Message Centre overview

Message Centre () is the software that you need to run on your local machine in order to be able to use the secureFetch site. It's free and available from the download page on secureFetch.com. The following set of pages take you through the installation and use of the Message Centre software, using screenshots as much as possible. To step through page by page, use the 'NEXT SECTION' link at the top of the screen.

Installing Message Centre.

To get the software, you need to register with secureFetch.com. Once done, you can download the installer from the downloads section as many times as you like, on as many machines as you want. You have a choice of HTTP download (slow but gets pretty much everywhere) or FTP download (faster but may be inhibited by firewalls). The software will appear as MCB.exe, and is currently around 25MB in size. Once the download has completed successfully, go to your download directory and double click on MCB.exe : this is the installer. You should see the Ape licence appear (shown below); you need to accept that before you can install the software.

Next, you should be presented with the installation setup menu. There are two components to the system : the larger general purpose library that you will only ever need to install once (other applications can use it too : its basically a Java run time environment if that means anything to you) plus the smaller MCB software. It's best to put the library in your Program Files directory under 'JET', and the MCB software there too, in a directory called 'MCB' : keeping these default values makes it easier if you ever wish to upgrade your software. Note that the 'Add To Desktop' option is unticked : this prevents the configuration files used by the software from cluttering up your desktop.

Once successfully installed, go to Start -> Programs -> MCB and you should see the following screen:

..which means is alive and well and ready for configuration. You can now either go through the configuration step by step using the 'NEXT SECTION' link at the top of the page (by the end of which should be ready to service requests), or you can jump ahead to any particular section from the following list :
