SecureFetch : do I need it? |
| You need secure fetch if you can answer yes to any of the following questions: |
| 1. You need access to files outside of your normal corporate or personal network. |
| 2. You need to perform file searches outside of your normal corporate or personal network. |
| 3. You want to provide remote file access to your employees or friends but do not want to open up your firewall. |
| 4. You want to provide remote file access to your personal computer but do not want it to be connected to the internet permanently. |
| 5. You want to provide secure requests for file access. |
| 6. You want to provide remote access to files with fine grained access controls on a per users basis. |
SecureFetch : what is it? |
| There are 2 components to SecureFetch; the web site www.securefetch.com and Message Centre. Message Centre is an application that you install on any machine that you want to be able to perform remote file searching on. The SecureFetch web site is where you go when you want to perform a remote search. |

| You will need to perform the following steps in order to be ready to use SecureFetch: |
| 1. Register and create an account for yourself at www.securefetch.com. |

| 6. Now test the user access to your newly configured by logging into www.securefetch.com and selecting the Fetch link, completing the form and pressing Submit. |

SecureFetch : how does it work? |

| User accesses the www.securefetch.com web site, logs in and completes the Fetch form and submits the request. The request may be to either obtain a list of file summaries that match the search criteria, similar to a web search, or to obtain the files themselves. |

| SecureFetch : what about security? |
| Security is our number one concern. When operations are enabled on remote machines we believe that the Corporation or User should be responsible to prevent any breaches in security. |
| Access to generate requests requires a username and password. This username and password is for access to a user account on the www.securefetch.com site only. |

| There are 2 types of service available within SecureFetch, Basic and Professional. |
The Basic service (Available NOW) |
| This Basic service provides encrypted requests to be made to either collect or search remote files. The responses to search requests have the requests for individual files encrypted, but the response text, i.e. the first n bytes of following the match are unencrypted. The responses to file requests are not encrypted. |
The Professional service (Available SOON) |
| This Professional service can also use special client software and all responses are fully encrypted. The client software is the only tool that can be used to view the encrypted responses. The responses to file requests can be unencrypted by the client software and saved to the local file system. The professional service gives the added security of ensuring that all responses transmitted are encrypted. |
